Institutions and Economics: 30 Years After the Fall of the Iron Curtain
The fall of the Iron Curtain 30 years ago marked the beginning of a fundamental change in the economic and political system in the former Eastern bloc. The goal of the numerous reforms was the transition from a planned into a market economy as well as the end of the one-party rule and democratic reforms. This issue looks at these changes retrospectively and summarizes the key insights gained.

The DICE Database features new datasets on the following topics
- Polity Score
- Ease of Doing Business Index
The database article zooms in on the political and economic transition of formerly socialist countries. It presents the Policy Indicator describing the regime authority characteristics of a country. Furthermore, the article presents three sub-categories of the Doing Business Index, namely starting a business, ease of doing business and resolving insolvency.
